VERNAL- Mrs. Annie Carroll Weist, 86, Vernal, died of causes incident to age Thursday at 5 a.m. in a Vernal hospital.  Born May 8, 1878, Salt Lake County, to Siney and Elizabeth Coleman Lewis.  Married to Joseph H. Carroll, January 1899.  He died.  Married to Nathan Springer in 1925, Midway, Wasatch County.  He died.  Married to John W. Weist in 1943, Vernal.  Member Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Survivors: husband; sons, daughter, DeVere Carrol, Vernal; Mrs. Axel (Afton) Birch, Pleasant Grove; Dearl Carroll, Ogden; Veldon Carroll, Arco, Idaho; Norman Carroll, Marietta, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; brothers, sisters, Frank Lewis, Charles P. Funeral Honors Annie C. Weist
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Annie Carroll Weist Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Glines Ward chapel.
Mrs. Weist died Thursday at 5 a.m. of causes incident to age in the Vernal hospital.
Services were under the direction of Bishop Garth Batty.  Prelude and postlude music was played by Ruth Walker.
Bishop Batty gave a short history of Mrs. Weist.  Don Hullinger gave the invocation which was followed by a vocal duet, "In the Garden", by Roberta Ufford and Pat Stewart.
Harold E. Hullinger was the first speaker.  This was followed by a vocal, "Oh, My Father", by Max Gentry.  The concluding speaker was Harmon Sowards.
"Whispering Hope" a duet, was sung by Lois Erickson and Don Walker.  Benediction was by LeRoy Carroll.
The grave was dedicated by Joseph Price and burial was in the Maeser Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Clyde Carroll, Bert Carroll, Bruce Carroll, Lynn King, Floyd Kind and Fletch Leming.
Mrs. Weist was born May 8, 1878 in Holladay, Salt Lake County, a daughter of Siney and Elizabeth Coleman Lewis.
She married Joseph H. Carroll in 1899.  He died.  She married Nathan Springer in 1925.  He also died. Married to John W. Weist in 1943 in Vernal.
Survivors include her husband, four sons and a daughter, DeVere Carroll, Vernal; Mrs. Axel (Afton) Birch, Pleasant Grove; Dearl Carroll, Ogden; Veldon Carroll, Arco, Idaho; Norman Carroll, Marietta, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Frank Lewis, Charles P. Lewis, Mrs. Harold E. (Jenny) Hullinger, all Vernal; and Mrs. Asher (Birda) Merkley, who is on a mission in Pecos, Tex.
Out of town people who attended the funeral included all of her children and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hullinger, Bountiful; Don Hullinger, Granger; Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Hullinger, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Glen (Venita) Probst, Pleasant Grove; Douglas Merkley, Heber; Mrs. Dallas R. (Geneve) Workman, Centerville; Mrs. R.D. (Lenore) Nielsen, Salt Lake City; Clyde Carroll, Price; Bruce Carroll, Provo; Mr. and Mrs. Fletch Leming and children, Pleasant Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Carroll and children of Craig, Colo., Rhea Carroll, Reno, Nev., and Mr. and Mrs. George Foster, Columbia, Carbon County.

Margret Merkley & Rulon Hansen

Margret Jane Merkley was Asher's youngest sister.

She married Rulon Hansen (of Alamosa, CO) in the Salt Lake Temple (Salt Lake City, UT) on 28 April 1927.
Thus, she became Margret Jane Merkley Hansen.

Hansen of Vernal.  The young couple will make their home in Alamosa.  Miss Merkley, for several years, has been a teacher at the Vernal Central school.  Mr. Hansen is an employee of J.C. Penney Co. and was formerly a resident of Vernal where he was in charge of the shoe department of the Ashley Co-op.

VERNAL- Alice Hacking Murray, age 93 died in a Vernal hospital, November 3, 1988.
Born May 26, 1895 in Vernal, a daughter of John Sampson and Mary Elizabeth Hall Hacking.  Married Ezra Merkley, 1913, he died in 1919.  Married Wilson Murray, December 1921, he died in 1951.  She was a business woman, former owner and manager of the Small Fry Dress Shop.  Member of the Vernal 6th Ward.
Survived by two daughters, Mrs. Eunice Wevill, Grand Junction, Colorado; Mrs. Dave (Laura) Condon, Vernal; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, brothers and sister, Mrs. Alton (Jennie) Hatch, Boulder, Colorado; twin brothers, Iowa and Clyde Hacking, both of Vernal; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services, Monday, November 7, 11 a.m. at the Vernal 6th Ward Chapel.  Friends may call at Thomson's Vernal Mortuary, Sunday 7-9 p.m. and Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Burial Maeser Fairview Cemetery.

SPRINGVILLE, Utah County- Siney Lewis, 75, Inglewood, Calif., died Sunday morning in a Spanish Fork hospital of a heart ailment.  He was visiting a son in Springville.  Born June 6, 1883, Holladay, to Siney and Elizabeth Coleman Lewis.  Vernal resident most of life, moved to California 15 years ago.  Married Helena Hoeft.  She died 1952. Inglewood Mormon Church Official Dies on Vacation
Funeral services for Siney Lewis Jr., 74, a high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints, will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Inglewood Ward Chapel, Warren Lane and Centinela Avenue, Inglewood.
Mr. Lewis, of 559 East 67th Street, Inglewood, died Sunday in Utah, while on his way to Vernal for a family reunion.  Born in Holladay, Utah, the deceased, a security officer for the Associated Ice Company, had resided in Inglewood since 1945.
Bishop Ferril Peel, of the Inglewood Ward will officiate.  The Inglewood Ward High Priests Quorum will serve as honorary pallbearers.  Interment in Inglewood Park Cemetery will be under direction of the Hardin and Flanagan Mortuary.
Survivors are two sons, William A. of Corona, and Charles S. of Springville, Utah; five daughters, Mrs. Hazel L. Oberg and Mrs. Merle E. Former Resident, Siney Lewis, Jr. Succumbs at 75
Word was received by Charles P. Lewis in Vernal of the death of his brother, Siney Lewis, Jr, 75, of Inglewood, Calif, who succumbed in a Springville hospital Sunday morning of last week.
Mr. Siney Lewis had started for Vernal to visit his relatives here, but had stopped in Springville to visit with a son, Charles Lewis Saturday evening he became ill and was taken to the hospital where he died the next morning.
Funeral services and burial were held at Inglewood last Thursday.
Mr. Lewis had lived in Vernal for many years, but the past 16 years he had resided in Inglewood.  He was an active member of the LDS he moved to California.
Mr. Lewis was born 6 June, 1883 at Holladay, Salt Lake, a son of Siney Lewis, Sr and Elizabeth Coleman Lewis.  In 1886 at the age of three, he moved with his parents to Midway.  In 1896 the family moved to Vernal where Mr. Lewis resided until he moved to California.
Mr. Lewis took a barber course and barbered in Vernal for a number of years.  He later purchased the Vernal Confectionery and operated it for many years.  He was also a carpenter by trade.
He married Helena Hoeft at Vernal on Dec 3, 1903.  In September of 1907 the marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  Mrs. Lewis preceded him in death on May 11, 1952.
Survivors include two sons, Wm A. Lewis, Lynwood, Calif and Charles S Lewis, Springville, seven daughters, Mrs. Enola Shelton, Mrs. Bertha DuRee, Mrs. Hazel Obert, Mrs. Merle Silvers and Mrs. June Williams, all of Inglewood, Calif, Mrs. Nellie Rae McDaniel, Los Angeles and Mrs. Carma Koef, Spibnite, Ida.
